Laverne McDowald-Thompson

Vice President

Laverne McDowald-Thompson, is a dedicated and active member of her community, tirelessly working to build and promote initiatives for both the diaspora and her homeland, St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Currently serving as the Vice President of the Council of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Organizations USA Inc.(COSAGO).  She previously held the presidency for 14 years, demonstrating her strong leadership and commitment. Her extensive experience includes two years as Vice President and two years as Chairperson of the Church Service Committee. Currently, she leads the Fundraising Committee.

In addition to her roles with COSAGO, Laverne is a vital member of the SVG Relief Committee of NY and the Vincy Day USA Committee. She was also part of the Caribbean American Renal Relief Fund, which supports Caribbean nationals suffering from renal disease, and serves as president of the Chateaubelair Development Organization, focusing on educational support and humanitarian aid.

Laverne’s contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including awards from the SVG Nurses Association, the Chateaubelair Development Organization, and the Vincentian American Adventist Association. She received a proclamation from the City Council Member of the 40th District in Brooklyn for her outstanding contributions to the community. Most recently, Laverne was honored by COSAGO for her leadership, dedication, and humanitarian efforts.

With over twelve years of service in the SVG Ministry of Education, Laverne has also prioritized her education, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the City University of New York. Her journey is a testament to her commitment to uplifting others and fostering a strong sense of community.
