Stanley Morris is a dedicated sports ambassador with a rich history in football (soccer) and community service. A former senior national player for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines(SVG), he uniquely played every position on the field (except goalkeeper) from 1973 to 1985. His coaching experience includes leading U19 Caribbean & Windward teams from 1975 to 1978 and introducing the SOCCERAMA tournament at Victoria Park in 1974. As Treasurer of the SVG Football Federation, he secured a personal loan to facilitate travel on a chartered plane for the WIFA annual tournament.
Motivated by a desire to make football the people’s game, Morris pledged to enhance the sport in his community and has traveled extensively to play and coach across various leagues in Saint Vincent. After migrating to the USA in 1980, he aimed to elevate SVG soccer in the Tri-State area, successfully training and competing from mid-March to mid-September annually. Under his leadership, Hairoun Sports Club and Team SVGUSA became prominent representatives of SVG in the Tri-State region.
Morris has the distinction of coaching all-star teams from CBSL and the Caribbean Cup, boasting an undefeated record, including a memorable victory against the Reggae Boys in 1998. In 2015, he was honored as a Sports Ambassador by the Government of SVG, making his debut at the World Cup qualifier in Michigan, where he sat with then-President Gulati.
Throughout his career, he has secured multiple 10-year US visas for SVG players and facilitated scholarships for several athletes. He has also funded players to travel abroad for professional tryouts in countries such as England, Portugal, and Germany.
In 2017, through FOVP and Hairoun Sports Club, he honored over 30 cricket and soccer players from the Victoria Park era with plaques and trophies, celebrating their contributions to the sport.
In addition to his sports endeavors, Morris has worked for over a decade in various roles within Corporate USA, including Staff Accountant, Auditor, and Consultant. His responsibilities included significant financial reconciliations and audits, showcasing his diverse skill set.
Morris left the corporate world to focus on coaching the “beautiful game,” working with clubs, private schools, and high school teams in soccer, track and field, basketball, and baseball. He is also involved in supervising rented fields, serving as the main chaperone for all teams, coaching a debating club, and is a member of the table tennis club, with plans to introduce cricket and netball.
Notably, during his representations for SVG, he took unpaid leave from his corporate job, demonstrating his commitment to his country.
Currently, he serves as a Deacon in the ministry of Hope Restored Tabernacle, embodying his dedication to uplifting others both in sports and in faith.
